The aim of this presentation is to discuss ethical issues in healthcare organization, problem that may pose difficult scenario for APN for clinical decision making and ethical reasons. We will discuss how APNs manage these conflicts considering ethical principles and the ANA Code of Ethics. Furthermore, I will describe a particular ethical problem and give some suggestions on how to solve such issues with equal regard for all our stakeholders.

Other important responsibilities of APNs are the capacity to work in an Interprofessional Team. This also includes establishing collaboration with physicians, social workers, ethicists, in order to identify the necessary methods of actions in case of ethic clashes with patients. Altogether, APNs are involved in developing and establishing policies to promote ethical practice and parity of ethical treatments in health care organizations, fair, equal, and of high quality.

Description of an Ethical Dilemma

• Ethical dilemma: Patient’s refusal for treatment.
• Stakeholders will be the patient, family, and any other person with a say in the treatment.
• Every group affected by decision made.
• For the ethical dilemma- if the patient goes by the will, the family suffers.
• Clinicians struggle with honoring the request.

This time an ethical issue we are going to discuss concerns the patient who are against receiving lifesaving care because of faith. In this case, the stakeholders will be the patent, the patent’s family, and everybody else who has a say in the patient’s treatment. They understand that every group is affected by the decision in one or the other. The patient self-governs, the family suffers, or may experience grief; the clinicians struggle with the dilemma of honoring patient’s request that is contrary to their role as healers and providers.

• Delayed treatment affects stakeholders.
• It makes it challenging for patients, nurses, and family.
• Internal conflict can ensue.
• Treatment plan can conflict with the ethical principle of beneficence.
• An ethical dilemma arises in this case.

Self-delayed treatment effects the stakeholders by making it difficult for the patient to accept treatment. Families of patients may develop internal conflict which stems from the patient’s belief system and the need to have that family member recover. The treatment plan can come in conflict with the provider’s principle of beneficence because they are proscribed to take a patient’s life while honoring the patient’s wishes and personal values. This gives rise to a kind of ethical dilemma where a number of ethical values are in conflict hence the importance of ethical direction.

Ethical Analysis

• Involves a conflict between two key ethical principles: autonomy and beneficence.
• Autonomy- acknowledges independence of patients (Giannetta et al., 2021).
• Beneficence- Requires health providers to do good to a patient.
• ANA Code of ethics- provision 1.
• Provision speaks to respect for human dignity.
• Provision 3- advocacy for patient rights.

This ethical dilemma involves a conflict between two key ethical principles: autonomy and beneficence. Autonomy acknowledges the independence of the patient for individual decisions, while beneficence encourages the healthcare givers to do that which is good for the patient. The ANA Code of Ethics can be of help especially using Provision 1 that speaks of human dignity and Provision 3 that promotes advocacy for patient’s rights. This paper has assisted in explaining the conflicted ethical standards at work and how APNs should approach them.

Following ethical principles like autonomy and beneficence and based on the ANA Code of Ethics, APNs guarantee that the discussed treatment plans are both patient-centered and ethical. The suggested recommendations refer to shared decision making and consultation with ethics committees that can offer real solution in these complicated cases and preserve everybody’s interests.
