Pathophysiology of Asthma

Asthma is “an inflammatory disease of the airways that causes airway hyper responsiveness, mucosal edema, and mucus overproduction, production characterized by coughing, wheezing and dyspnea.” The pathophysiology of asthma is characterized by three major components: airway inflammation, airway hyperresponsiveness, and airway obstruction.
