Summary of the Issue
Nursing incivility encompasses rudeness and discourtesy in the course of service provision, including teasing, abandonment of professional courtesy, and overlooking another’s worth as a person. This experience affects the well-being of the nurses in their workplace, and their increasing stress and emotional exhaustion influence the quality of care offered to patients and their health. Research carried out in four Saudi healthcare facilities analyzed how incivility experienced by nurses, stress levels, and patients’ conditions are connected; the results pointed to a connection between workplace abuse and high readmission rates. The study recommends that more should be done to enhance positive work climates.

On the micro-level, the people experiencing incivility include individual nurses. When subjected to this, they develop high levels of stress that may lead to burnout and poor quality of care for their patients. At the meso-level, incivility results in negative organizational outcomes such as compromised team cohesion, rising conflict, and staff attrition in the nursing divisions. This makes it difficult for communication to occur, directly impacting patient safety (Alsadaan et al., 2024). On the macro-level, organizations at the receiving end will experience reduced organizational efficiency and increased healthcare-related incidences due to diminished healthcare service delivery standards since the healthcare staff tends to be stressed owing to unpolite conduct by fellow caregivers.

Healthcare Policy Impact
Currently, organizational policies within the healthcare setting underestimate the consequences of workplace incivility, and most of the attention is paid to production-related issues, as well as the safety of patients. However, the absence of specific policies restricting incivility fosters deleterious organizational climates that negatively impact nurse well-being and patient care outcomes. Such a policy would ensure that leadership was on the line to maintain healthy working environments and offer avenues for dealing with incivility.
