• Graduate students who want to strengthen their scholarly writing skills, with a focus on paraphrasing, synthesizing, and evaluating main ideas.
• Graduate students who have successfully completed 6050 or 6051: Graduate Writing I: Basic Composition, or have been recommended to take this course from a course instructor.
• NOTE: Graduate students only (Master’s or Doctoral)

In this 8-week course, students will practice effective writing strategies to advance their scholarly writing skills. The course is designed to help prepare master’s and doctoral students for successful writing experiences at Walden, including writing-intensive coursework. In a supportive environment, students will practice the core concepts of critical reading and research, prewriting, drafting, and revising; and apply those concepts through discussions and a variety of assignments. Students will compose an evaluative essay for their final course essay. Students will also complete an assessment of their skills and a personal plan for continued development of their scholarly writing. This course is complimentary to CAEX 6050: Graduate Writing I: Basic Composition Skills, and enhances the skills covered in CAEX 6050. Students in this course are expected to have a familiarity with the skills covered in CAEX 6050: Graduate Writing I: Basic Composition Skills. CAEX 6060/ 6060 Graduate Writing II: Intermediate Composition Skills Essay Assignment Papers.

• Evaluate scholarly writing skills and strategies for strengths and opportunities for improvement
• Use a functional writing strategy that incorporates critical reading and research, prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing

• Incorporate Instructors’ comments on written work into revised drafts
• Assess progress with writing skills and strategies
