Nursing Article

The foundation and framework for nursing is pegged upon the provision of good quality medical attention to all patients that are in need of it. One such example is the case of Roy Smith who was admitted into the palliative wing at the age of 76 years. The fact that he suffered from chronic pneumocystis coupled with other opportunistic infections made him to become confined to the walls of the hospital. By the time I began working in this hospital, Mr. Smith had already completed two years in this ward. My close interaction with him made me realize that he valued the closeness of nurses as compared to being given medication on time. For this reason, I would dedicate a few hours to providing company to Mr. Smith and at the same time showing different forms of care.

For instance, I would occasionally wheel him out to the garden where he would bask in the sun or also read aloud the newspaper for him when he asked of it. In the long run, I realized these efforts of compassion had a positive impact on his health such that his mentality on healing also changed drastically. This shows that nursing praxis are crucial when it comes to older patients and they can in fact speed up their recovery.
