Discussion: Emerging Technologies in Health Care

The ability to prevent, treat and diagnose diseases in the contemporary society relies on technological advancements. A significant emerging technology in healthcare is Internet of Medical Things. It describes the unification of medical devices and applications to networks and thus consists of medical monitors, smart wearables and devices exclusively employed in medical practice (Yuehong et al, 2016).  This emerging technology was selected following its ability to support monitoring, data collection, analysis and transfer of medical information across the web (Hassanalieragh et al, 2015). Moreover, it allows sharing of data in real time between healthcare products and medical equipment and with authorized handlers of healthcare information making it a center of interest for study. Internet of Medical Things use targets persons authorized to handle medical information. This includes healthcare providers and patients as well as other information technology personnel. It provides real time patient data thus facilitating fast and accurate diagnosis and retrieval of the patient’s medical history (Hunter, McGonigle & Hebda, 2013). Furthermore, it promotes efficiency in delivering healthcare services to patients through proper diagnoses, treatment and enhancement of fast recovery (Huston, 2013). Consequently, Internet of Medical Things helps in reducing financial burden to patients.

Internet of Medical Things technologies has seen increased use over the years following their ability to reduce the cost of healthcare, improve safety and quality of healthcare Discussion: Emerging Technologies in Health Care Essay. It facilitates accurate diagnosis and reduces the occurrence of medical errors which affects the safety of patients (Dimitrov, 2016). More so, it improves quality through efficient delivery of care and use of evidence based approaches. It also presents low per patient cost through fast access of impatient care and operational efficiency associated with accurate diagnosis and lack of medical errors whose management is costly.
