PART 2: Legislation Testimony/Advocacy Statement

There are many reasons why I feel strongly about this certain health related bill. First and foremost, I have a 8 year old son who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) around a year ago. This was something that I was very hard for my family to get adjusted to. I knew that my son was struggling in not only school work but also home life. This includes daily tasks such as daily routine, and getting along with his brother and sister. Since his diagnosis we have begun many things. He now is attending occupational therapy, speech therapy, and visits with a psychologist every week. We are a very busy family now but now my son is doing so much better in school with not only his school work but also socially at school. He is getting a lot so much better with his brother and sister and daily activities. Legislation Comparison Grid Template.

Ways that I would address this bill would be to provide examples of my life and my sons experience and what can be gained from this bill for someone with ASD or any other disability. We would have to be clear and stress the benefits of the bill and what it would entail. This bill, as listed above in the table, will have many benefits. The goal of this bill is to reduce disparities and provide access to clinical services for youth and adults from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic, or linguistic backgrounds in decisions about awarding grants to applicants which meet the scientific criteria for funding under this section. This bill will also promote evidence-based screening techniques and interventions for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities across their lifespan. Finally, this bill will see how information on how states use home- and community- based services and other supports to ensure that individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities are living, working, and participating in their community. As you can see this bill would be very beneficial to all families and people affected with ASD and other disabilities. Autism Spectrum Disorder is something that is downplayed and ignored a lot throughout the country. This is a disability that needs more resources. This is also something that is completely manageable and with the appropriate resources people can thrive while living with this diagnosis Legislation Comparison Grid Template.
