Reassessment of Strengths and Opportunities

Self-Assessment Summary

During this practicum, I made significant advancements in AGPCNP clinical skills. The first improvement is that I am now completely independent in several procedures that formerly required my supervision, including gait and balance assessment, herpes culture, pap smear, peak flow meter, and prostate examination. Also, my skill at fluorescein staining of the eye has become proficient, and I am now confident enough to conduct and interpret the test. I have also improved my ability to perform wart removal for the first time under supervision, which gave me valuable procedural competence. Additionally, my rationale in diagnostics has been deeper, facilitated by increased autonomy in ordering and also analyzing the tests. Hence, my overall self-rating has changed from needing supervision on most of the key skills to being independent in most of the areas, with only some procedures remaining to enhance my overall clinical ability.

Goals Achieved and Those Not Achieved

Concerning my goals, I have accomplished majority of my practicum goals since I am proficient in nearly all of the procedures that had previously needed to be supervised, including preparation for gait and balance assessment and pap smear. I also succeeded in becoming highly confident with fluorescein staining of the eye, and I did wart removal under supervision, which met my procedural goal. However, my proficiency in the removal of warts is still not sufficient since I did not get enough patient opportunities to warrant full autonomy. In further development of these skills, I shall seek focused clinical practice experience on my next practicum, with a focus on dermatology-specific communication and procedure exposure under the guidance of preceptors. Such an approach will enable me to develop my competency and preparedness for practice independence.
